Who Are We?

On a sunny Saturday morning in 2019, Cheerful Threads wound their first bobbin and sewed their first stitch!

With a toddler at the time, spare time wasn’t something I was accustomed to but spare time is what I found myself with that day. After seeing some cute sewing projects, and reminding myself that I DID have the important life skill of sewing (thanks to Home Economics of the 80s and 90s!) I used my spare 2 hours that day in the sunbeam at the kitchen table, sewing with a borrowed machine. It turned out that those were 2 of the best hours of my week!

Today, Cheerful Threads is a small business dedicated to making everyday items that I love and I hope others will too. I like to create things that are practical, useful and are fun to sew. These days I make warm fleece baby booties, slippers for kids, and bags everyone can use!  More recently, I create Dementia Activity Mats.  My mom, who used to cut patterns for me, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease about 6 years ago and this journey is what inspired my newest shop item.

I am married and the mom of one young girl who often becomes a product tester for Cheerful Threads. I sew everything myself and you will find these items in my Etsy shop (see link below).

We are located in Calgary, AB.  Thank you for choosing to support a handmade small business and taking an interest in our little shop!

You can also check out my Etsy shop for further information or to place an order!

About

My name is Charla and am a wife, mom and the Owner & Creator of Cheerful Threads!

This little business got dreamed up when I sewed my first pair of fleece baby booties and realized they would make great baby gifts.  Thanks to friends, word of mouth, some retail locations and Etsy, I’ve sewn and sold hundreds.

I love to sew and try new fabrics.  If it seems useful and there’s a need, I’ll usually give it a try. I make slippers, all kinds of totes, wallets & Sandhill Sling Back Packs and have also ventured into creating Dementia Activity Mats.  These were inspired by mom who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.  She started in this little business as my fabric cutter, always willing to help me.

If someone has an idea, I’ll try it.  I’ve done custom orders for anything from fanny packs to wheel chair bags.  I love to try new things.  Let me know if I can help!

It’s been hard to squeeze in time to create new products throughout the summer as we happily spend our days with playdates and outings. But, the little bit of sewing I HAVE done has made me look forward to the things I’ll create this fall. If you follow us on social media you will have …
